The Vision: The objective was to manifest a monumental celebration of Welsh musical heritage by reimagining the urban fabric of Cardiff as a living, rhythmic sculpture. Commissioned as the centrepiece for the inaugural Cardiff Music City, the narrative sought to dissolve the boundary between static architecture and the kinetic energy of sound. We aimed to evoke a sense of collective rhythm, turning a functional office block into a colossal, glowing beacon that breathed in synchronisation with a curated landscape of Welsh music.

The Manifestation: NeonBlack realised this vision by treating seven floors of a central landmark as a singular, expansive canvas. We materialised a rhythmic language where the building’s façade was transformed into a giant graphic equaliser, allowing the architecture itself to dance. The spatial choreography was dictated entirely by the pulse of the audio - a playlist curated by the legendary Huw Stephens - ensuring a vibrant, lens-first presence that commanded the city’s skyline. By grounding the work in this structural reality, we turned a mundane glass-and-steel grid into a fluid, emotive expression of the city's sonic identity.

The Result: The installation realised a powerful cultural impact, becoming a defining visual anchor for Cardiff’s musical soul. By reimagining the building as a monumental instrument, we manifested an environment that felt both high-concept and deeply communal. The result was a critically acclaimed success that proved the capacity of light and space to repurpose the everyday into the extraordinary.
